Sinking here, Floating there
2023
Video Installation

When I began my migration, arriving here meant leaving there. This cycle is endless.

Sinking Here, Floating There
is a project exploring the affective landscape of personal migration experiences, focusing on the attachment cycle and detachment from places, family, and cultural values. The project draws inspiration from the bodily experience of walking in water, portraying a body existing in two spaces—above the water and underneath it —and the sensation of hearing sounds both in the air and underwater. The contrast between these elements serves as a metaphor for complex emotions, such as unfamiliarity and nostalgia, associated with being in between.
This artwork assembles both poetic and conceptual dimensions to create a video and sound installation, exploring time-based, luminous, spatial, and text-based mediums to depict personal experiences and affective landscapes in a space. It invites the audience to adopt a first-person perspective, creating an immersive experience that evokes physiological and psychological responses, fostering empathy.

Exhibited in the BAFA Graduation Show 2023 at RMIT University.

I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Lands of the Boon Wurrung and Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my respects to Elders past and present and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land
